The story so far
Originally formed as Trilogy in 1983 in Melbourne, Florida, the band renamed themselves ATTIKA in 1985—vocalist Rob Van War adding the "K" inspired by Al Pacino's iconic "Attica! Attica!" cry from Dog Day Afternoon. Emerging from the American underground metal scene with a sound that blended raw power, soaring vocals, and relentless energy, ATTIKA carved out their own path during the golden age of heavy metal—unapologetically heavy, uncompromisingly loud. Kerrang! Magazine would award their 1988 debut the highest possible 5-K "Kolossal!" rating, and JAM! Magazine named them Florida's "Best Metal Band" in 1989.
Their self-titled debut dropped in 1988, followed by When Heroes Fall in 1992. Both records showcased a band firing on all cylinders—tight riffs, thunderous rhythms, and the unmistakable vocals of Rob Van War cutting through every mix. Though the band went quiet for years, the fire never died.
The comeback began with blistering festival appearances at Up The Hammers in Athens (2018) and Headbangers Open Air in Germany (2019), proving that ATTIKA's brand of heavy metal was not only alive but more potent than ever. The 2019 reissue of When Heroes Fall reminded the world what they'd been missing, and the release of Metal Lands in 2021 sealed the deal: ATTIKA is back, and they're here to stay.
Four decades in, the mission hasn't changed. Play it loud. Play it heavy. No compromise. No surrender. Welcome to the Metal Lands.
